Health is one of the most valuable assets we can cultivate in life. When we are healthy, we have the vitality and resilience to fully show up for work, relationships, hobbies, and handling whatever challenges come our way. We feel energized, clear-headed, positive, and fully alive. Yet many take health for granted until sickness occurs. The good news is small daily choices can build incredible health over time. By learning about what our bodies and minds require then implementing those lessons into lifestyle habits, we can optimize wellbeing and live vigorously.
A major component of health is eating a nutritious diet. Consuming a balance of lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, and an array of vegetables and fruits supplies the macro and micronutrients we need for energy, growth, and bodily functioning. Carbohydrates like whole grains, beans, vegetables, and fruits are our main fuel source. Pairing them with fiber slows digestion for lasting energy. Protein builds and repairs tissues while supporting immunity and hormone balance. Essential fatty acids maintain cell integrity and brain function. Vitamins, minerals and antioxidants from colorful produce defend against disease. Water keeps us hydrated. Limiting processed foods, added sugars, saturated fats, and sodium promotes a healthy weight and prevents illness. Portion control is key for balancing calories in and out. Mindful eating means paying attention to how foods make your body look, act, and feel then crafting meals accordingly. Overall, real, minimally refined foods nourish us optimally.
