I don't recommend doing it yourself if you haven't taken a plumbing course. It is quite a complicated situation. It would be best to ask a plumber to help fix your problems. And in the future, I would recommend you to take a plumber's school because it will help you in such situations to repair on your own without different questions appearing. For example, after many similar situations, I realized that a plumber's knowledge is welcome in many situations. That's why I went to a plumbing course that helped me a lot. If you are also interested in this, you can get information on plumber programs by entering your zip code on https://www.howtobecomeaplumber.org/online-schools/, and that's all.

Installed a new Kohler toilet in the guest bath the other weekend. I guess its because of the back to back fixtures on the wye in the drain, but each flush now siphons out water from the traps of the other fixtures. 3-4 flushes and there's enough water out of the traps to let sewer gas by in the shower.

Here's a pic of the drains/wye connection. The new WC is labeled #2. The main issue is the shower drain with just a basic p-trap on it (pic 2).

What is the best solution to remedy this - can i change the p-trap on the shower to something else or do i need to rework the wye to separate the WC from the other fixtures?
