I think more practical lessons online, such as reading real Chinese news articles or stories, or holding a conversation with sentences that draw on the unit's language points, or using more open exercises, such as writing a letter or recounting something that happened to the student in their past, would be helpful in training them to use Chinese in real-life situations outside the classroom.
