Singapore is the second most powerful passport on earth, and japan holds the leading position on earth, according to a new global index.
The index, according to the global citizenship and residency consulting organization henley & partners, ranks passports according to the number of destinations they provide holders have access to without the need for a visa. The list is regularly updated throughout the year.

Currently, a japanese passport gives holders access to 193 destinations without the need for a visa. This is an increase compared to 191 destinations at the beginning of this year.
Singapore allows its passport holders to visit 192 destinations, an increase from 190 destinations at the beginning of 2021.
This is the second year that singapore has lagged behind japan. In 2019, japan and singapore tied for first place. This connection was broken last year when japan gained easier access to saudi arabia.

South korea and germany followed singapore in third place with 191 destinations.
Henley & partners also reported that since 2006, when the index was launched, the gap in freedom of movement has become the largest ever. Japanese passport holders can visit 167 more places than afghan citizens, who are limited to only 26 countries, without first obtaining a visa.
The index also noted how the united kingdom and the united states are losing their passport power and moved to seventh place. They took the first places in 2014.
China, as the index showed, was one of the countries that improved the most. In 2011, china was in the 90th position with a score of 40.
