The key to heating the tower of 834 apartments under construction on the banks of the Brooklyn River (New York) will be a hole in the ground.
In fact, the building site will have 322 holes, each about 10 centimeters in diameter and 152 meters deep. These holes comprise the heart of a geothermal heat pump system, which is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 53% compared to a building with comparable heating and cooling capacity.
