LUSAKA ike Roshe Cortez NM SP Negras Blancas , July 11 (Xinhua) -- Africa's biggest trading bloc said Tuesday that fresh momentum has been injected towards efforts to create a tripartite free trading area as more countries have signed the agreement.

The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) said the decision by South Africa to sign the agreement last week has brought momentum towards the realization of the tripartite free trade agreement as the total number of countries that have signed it has reached 19, according to a statement released by the COMESA secretariat.

Three regional blocs, COMESA, the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), launched plans to create a tripartite free trade area on June 10, 2015 in Egypt.

The three trading blocs set a timeframe of 12 months for finalizing tariff negotiations and other outstanding issues.

The time frame was however missed and in October last year, a situation that forced the three trading blocs to set a new timeframe of April 2017 which was too missed.

Francis Mangeni, director of trade and customs at COMESA Nike Classic Cortez SP Nylon Rojos Blancas , said great strides have been done in the realization of the tripartite free trading area as countries have agreed on the three areas namely rules of origin, trade remedies and dispute settlement.

He said the finalization and adoption of the three issues during a ministerial meeting held in Uganda last week represented a milestone in the tripartite negotiations as it finally removed the last obstacle to signing and ratifying the agreement.

He said the ministers from the three trading blocs have set 30 October, 2017 as the time for completing outstanding issues especially tariff negotiations and ratification of the agreement.

A total of 14 ratifications are required for the agreement to enter force.
