My husband and I reuse Tropicana bottles (to be exact) to freeze water. Ah, ice water is delicious.

He says cleaning them in the dishwasher leeches out chemicals over time that are dangerous?

Does anyone know the truth on this?

Yes, heating plastics can and does release toxic chemicals. If you could, you would be much better off. I believe (but am not a plastic chemist) that dangerous chemicals can be washed off the surface with cold water and detergent, and plastic is just as" safe " as it was before it was heated. I don't know how safe this plastic is to start with, though.

Tea bags are another example of plastic that releases chemicals. This is well below the melting point of plastic, but above the critical temperature at which chemicals undergo some changes. Boiling water is higher than this temperature.

Yes, you're right! But also it depends on how powerful is your dishwasher. I’ve bought my from a website named There are described all kinds of dishwashers and the prices are very nice. All questions that you have will disappear in a moment because of very useful information. Also you can find there your model and read about it to know if it has enough power to release chemicals. Here is a link of that store where I’ve bought my dishwasher. ianboer.com.au
