Passive RFID tags are composed of coupling elements and chips. Each RFID has a separate electronic code, which is attached to the object to identify the target object, commonly known as an electronic tag. There are many kinds of electronic labels, each of which has its own characteristics and has its own application market.

The electronic tag can be divided into active electronic tag, passive electronic tag and semi passive electronic tag. The active electronic tag is equipped with a battery, the passive electronic tag does not have an internal battery, and the semi passive electronic tag partially depends on the battery.

    Active electronic tag

Active electronic tags are powered by built-in batteries, and different tags use different numbers and shapes of batteries

Advantages: the distance between the passive RFID tag and the RFID reader / writer can reach tens of meters or even hundreds of meters, and the distance can be controlled.

Disadvantages: large volume, high cost, and service time is affected by battery life.

Applications: industry, logistics, real-time traffic management, vehicle access control, etc.

    passive tag

The passive electronic tag does not contain batteries, and its power is obtained from the RFID reader / writer. When the passive electronic tag is close to the RFID reader / writer, the antenna of the passive electronic tag converts the received electromagnetic wave energy into electrical energy, activates the chip in the passive RFID tag(more info), and sends the data in the RFID chip.

Advantages: small size, light weight, low cost, long life, can be made into different shapes and applied to different environments.

Disadvantages: since there is no internal power supply, the distance between the passive electronic tag and the RFID reader / writer is affected. Generally, the RFID reader / writer with high power is required.

Application: book management, file management, logistics supply chain management, etc.

    Semi active electronic tag

Semi active electronic tag, which integrates the advantages of active electronic tag and passive electronic tag, is a special marker. In normal times, it is in the sleep state and does not work, and does not send RFID signals to the outside. It only starts to work after it enters the range of activation signals and the tag is activated.

Advantages: compared with passive electronic tags. Semi active electronic tags have faster reaction speed and better efficiency. Compared with the active electronic tag, the semi-active electronic tag battery consumes less power.

Disadvantages: large volume and high cost

Application: access control management, object positioning, parking lot management, etc.
