We have used the excellent overnight sleeper train from Germany to Austria a couple of times, maybe three. Sadly it appears to be no longer running from western Germany to Austria or Italy.

Does anyone know of any other overnight trains that also carry motorbikes to beat the long motorway slog.

As before we would probably, subject to availability, train it down and ride all the way back and see friends in Northern Italy & mid France

Some advice for those traveling by overnight train for the first time. Coach? You may want to bring a cooler full of food. The cafe car will have stadium food like microwaved hot dogs and hamburgers, chips, soda, etc. Alcohol is sold on board at a bit of markup Sleeper may be worth it because you can unmask while the door is closed. Also, you can bring your alcohol to consume in a sleeper. Download any TV or movies you may want during the journey, as cell reception varies dramatically on almost all routes. And for a line recommendation, I usually get my tickets from here dbfahrplan.com
