Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has finally confirmed Antonio Rudiger's future at Stamford Bridge. The German tactician confirmed his team will leave Chelsea at the end of the season.
As is well known, Rudiger is under contract with the Blues until June 30, 2022. Chelsea failed to reach a new agreement with the 29-year-old defender. As a result, Rudiger had to go to another club.
The player's agent has reportedly held talks with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United (MU) regarding a potential summer transfer. Rudiger's transfer plan was also announced after Chelsea's match against West Ham which ended 1–0 in favor of the Blues.
"(Regarding) Toni, the media is talking about it. His situation indicates that he wants to leave the club. He told this a few days ago in a private conversation," Tuchel said on Sunday (4/24/2022) as reported by Metro.
Tuchel regretted the British government's sanctions, which made it unable to extend Rudiger's stay. In fact, the Blues should still have time and opportunity to offer a new deal to the player.
"We have given everything, both me and the club, but we can't fight anymore because of the sanctions. (Without sanctions), we at least had a chance to try, (but) we couldn't do anything for weeks," continued the 48-year-old coach.
For information, Chelsea has been sanctioned by the British government because its owner, Roman Abramovich, is accused of having close relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This condition prevented the Blues from buying and extending player contracts.
The club based at Stamford Bridge is also in danger of falling into poverty. They are prohibited from selling official club souvenirs and cannot sell tickets for home matches. As for the Chelsea audience at Stamford Bridge, only those who have purchased a canal ticket since the start of the season.
