Microsoft Ecosystem: Surface

Microsoft is better known as a software giant that produces the Windows operating system, office programs and other software. But for more than five years, the corporation has been producing its own laptops and tablets under the Surface brand.

The Surface series devices pioneered the new 2-in-1 form factor, where a laptop can easily be turned into a tablet and vice versa. For the first time, the world saw tablets from Microsoft back in 2012. Since then, they have experienced ups and downs, managed to prove that such devices have the right to life. Let's take a closer look at each device in the Surface series.

    Surface RT: Getting started
On October 26, 2012, the Microsoft Surface RT tablet went on sale. It attracted great interest from both journalists and consumers, as it was actually Microsoft's first tablet. The stylish and image device was intended for self-confident, solid people.

Surface Pro: The Beginning of Something Different
After the start of sales of the younger version of the tablet on Windows RT, Microsoft released an updated version with the Windows 8 Professional operating system with a more advanced display and a powerful Intel Core i5 processor.

    Surface Pro 3

Against the background of all these conversations, rumors began to appear that Microsoft Corporation wants to release a tablet on ARM processors again, but this time Surface Mini. Detractors were already rubbing their hands in anticipation of the fact that they will now rejoice and laugh at the development of the IT giant.

    Surface Laptop: Finally, a laptop
At an event in New York on May 2, 2017, Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop. It didn't have a detachable display, a cover, or an ARM processor. For the first time, the company had a regular laptop in its arsenal.

The event itself was meant to showcase Microsoft's educational efforts, where it announced a new version of Windows called Windows 10 S. It's a closed version of Windows 10 Pro where users can install and run apps from the Store. Those who purchase a Surface Laptop can upgrade to the Pro for free until March 31, 2018.

    Let's summarize
When Microsoft decided to release its devices in 2012, most experts predicted complete failure and financial losses. At first it seemed that they were indeed right: the Surface RT was a failure, the Surface Pro was not taken seriously. But time passed, and Microsoft persistently bent its line on the promotion of hybrid devices on Windows. And their persistence was rewarded, as over time other manufacturers increasingly began to produce hybrid devices of the "2-in-1" format. And the devices of the Microsoft Surface line themselves were increasing their popularity more and more, forcing experts to change their opinion about Microsoft devices. I am sure that in the future the company will surprise us with an innovative device that may change our perception of a portable laptop with Windows 10.
