Leadership involves two parts: those who lead, and those who follow. This process strives for the result and developing of an organization. Leaders influence followers, and the latter should take the authority of a leader as a guidance. To become a successful leader one should also be a good follower, to learn loyalty, respect to superiority, subordination, and when and how to protest. Leadership is oriented on completing the mission, where the leaders and followers should act for the sake of higher purpose, so it is accompanied by a mutual commitment. Soldiers can experience different external influence or opinions, leaders can mitigate their anticipation by their leader’s power. Army leaders should build relationships on truth and honesty to avoid negative leadership. Negative leadership is the process that prevents a properly accomplished mission and serves only for the self-esteem of a leader; no trust relations can be achieved with such a policy.

In different situations, leaders should be initiative, show decision making in stressful situations, and it takes courage. Leaders should be courageous and candid to provide safety to people and accomplish the mission. They adapt their decisions in accordance with situation that needs education, training and experience to lead.

Informal and collective leadership are the types of leadership that support a legitimate leader, but do not relate to the hierarchy. Collective leadership is a process when leaders from the different levels join together for the mission accomplishment. The result of collective leadership is greater than the result of its parts. Anyone can manifest leadership.

Commander is the authority in army forces that has an ability to exercise orders on their subordinators to better complete the mission.

Character determines person’s beliefs and actions. According to the model, it consists of the army values, empathy, warrior ethos, and discipline. Presence is how others percept the leader. Presence influences whether people will want to follow this person; it is the total impression of the leader’s skills. Intellect possesses the abilities shown during the interaction. Intellect is a strategically important attribute of a leader; it influences the mind, dynamics, critical thinking and decision-making process.

Competencies of the model include the person who leads, develops, and achieves. Leading area consists of five competencies: to lead others, build trust, extend influence beyond the chain of command, to lead by example, and to communicate. Development section consists of such competencies: positive environment creation, self preparation, development of others, and profession management. The last section of the competencies, such as achievements, includes getting of the results.

Army leadership develops on all levels, and involves recruiting, assessing, developing, assigning, promoting, and broadening. As a result, it trains and creates the best leaders. Army leaders develop continuously and advance their professionalism.
