This is shattering news for Yema and marks the start of a new era for the Mortuacian house. With this new Superman Bronze equipped with the new CMM.10 manufacture caliber, this diving icon brings the French brand into the big leagues. And for its launch, Yema opted – just like for its last major projects – for a pre-order on Kickstarter.

The arrival of the CMM.10 manufacture caliber

This will allow you to understand why Yema is using Kickstarter during its transition as a manufacturer. What you need to remember is above all one name: Olivier Mory. A genius watch replicas uk designer based in Neuchâtel, 20 minutes by car from La Morteau, who enabled the creation of this new caliber, but also that of the CMM.20 and CMM.30. But from the start, the real objective was the CMM.10 with its architecture entirely developed for Yema as well as performances worthy of the greatest watchmaking houses: non-magnetic and anti-shock properties, 70 hours of power reserve as well as greater precision. sharper than the COSC standards with a deviation of -3/+5 seconds per day. Let's not forget to mention its modern finishes which, despite what one might think, are much more demanding than the traditional Cotes de Genève: a treatment by fine atomic layer deposition (ALD).

    The return of “Moby Dick”

While fans of the brand were hoping to see Superman Legacy or even a Superman 500 with the new move, that would have been too easy (even if we know full well that this is the next step that Yema has in store for us). It was therefore the perfect opportunity to mark the return of the “Moby Dick”, a bronze version launched in 2019. It was therefore never a reissue of a vintage fake watch from the French house, but indeed a tribute to an oceanography mission carried out by François Sarano, doctor in oceanography and professional diver, having accompanied Jacques-Yves Cousteau and the Calypso team as well as publishing a book entitled The Return of Moby Dick. The objective was to follow a family of 30 sperm whales to establish a family tree over several generations, but also to better understand their individual personalities. A strong link with the ocean and above all modern, like this new Superman Bronze CMM.10.

    A subtly improved Superman

As always, at least since Christopher Bôle, Managing Director of Yema, took charge, the watch has been improved. Rethinking it would have been madness given the heritage of Superman, but that doesn't mean the house has rested on its laurels. While its dimensions remain the same (39 or 41mm wide), its finishes are on another level: brushing and polishing are remarkable and contrast with the past. We really appreciate the brushing on the middle, more logical for a “tool watch”, but we also love the large polished chamfer which overhangs it and which refines the ends of the crown protector. Another micro-detail that we appreciate and which is located around the edge of the unidirectional bezel: the notches are no longer slightly rounded but flat with a brushed finish as logical as the rest.

And while detractors might criticize it for having a transparent caseback, what better opportunity to unveil the superb CMM.10 caliber? When we know that Omega did the same thing with its famous Seamaster Diver 300M, and that its water resistance is still 300 meters, you would have to be crazy to blame them. Afterwards, watchmaking is still a question of taste. On the dial side, Yema has chosen a gradient blue then a lacquered black, two good classics with beige markings which reinforce their vintage style clearly accentuated by the double-dome sapphire crystal. And while the famous “shovel” second hand disappears, its new “lollipop” hand goes even better with its round indexes. Finally, the French brand has also pushed the cursor at the level of the tropic bracelet, still in FKM rubber, but now integrated in order to fit perfectly between the lugs.
