So how is the problem of tournament over saturation going to be approached in 2017? Simple, people thought it would be a great idea to ADD more tournaments.
According to Esports Earnings, at this time last year, there had been 68 competitions or competitions associated with Counter-Strike played. In 2017, that number has more than doubled to 148.
It is simply too much.
My solution? The season needs to be split into two. A league season and a tournament season.
The fight for league as well as tournament supremacy has been fought and won by WESA, ESL, and FACEIT’s ECS. With that in mind, they have all the power in the world to fix this problem. But just in case they need any help, I am offering this solution to help seed the mind of the powers that be.
At a glance:
League Season runs from February to May and October to Early December.
Tournament Season is second two weeks within January and July – September.
No scheduled events from the second week in December until the second week of January.
The actual ESL Pro League right now is the premier league in the world. Let’s get 48 of the best teams in the world divided into four regions, playing to get to the ESL World Championships.
Group Season:
ESL Pro League
Four, 16-team divisions Cheap CSGO Skins (Americas, Europe, Asia, Oceania)
Little league runs from February to May
World Championships played in late May whereas every year the venue rotates between regions
One time each month during the regular season, matches are played offline at a venue spectators can attend
The ECS is one of the top two leagues in the world and also deserves a place on the competitive map. Two 16-team divisions, actively playing for an ECS Championships that takes place in early December is the call here.
ECS
2, 16-team divisions (East and West)
Category runs from Oct to December
Championship played in early Dec
Tournament Season:
A couple of different time frames (Last two weeks in January and June – September)
16 weeks of possible dates
Now we can get the actual excitement and fan pan participating we want that will maximize money and the allure regarding events that are now special.
This is just a rough template from which to create ideas along with think about what could be done to alleviate the issues described earlier. We want to see the best Counter-Strike being played. Not tired teams that cannot advance their strategies because they are traveling every weekend. -
